Dian Wei was a native of Chenliu. He was a famous general at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. He was a stout-looking general with great strength. He was once able to raise the flag of the Tooth Gate with one hand. During Cao Cao’s conquest of Chang Bu, he was recruited to fight in the battlefield, and after his valor, he was made a lieutenant and guarded Cao Cao. In the second year of Jian’an, when Zhang Xiu betrayed Cao Cao, Dian Wei led a dozen men to protect Cao Cao’s face from the rebels, killing many of them, but ultimately died in battle because he was outnumbered.
