Xia Hou Yuan , with the character Miao Cai , was a native of Qiao County, Peiguo. He was a famous general at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, and was a descendant of Xia Hou Yuan, who was one of the most important ministers of the Eastern Han Dynasty. In his early years, he followed Cao Cao’s campaigns in all directions, serving successively as a cavalry captain and governor of Chenliu and Yingchuan counties. He was good at running for thousands of miles and taking people by surprise in battle, and successively put down rebellions such as Chang Xi, Xu He, Lei Su and Shang Yao. By virtue of his meritorious service, he was promoted to the rank of General of Western Conquest, and was awarded the title of Marquis of Bochangting. In the 24th year of Jian’an, Liu Bei led an attack on Hanzhong, and Hahou Yuan was killed by Huang Zhong. After his death, he was given the title of Counselor and was honored in the temple of Emperor Taizu.
